The Himalaya Project at Twycross Zoo demonstrates the versatility of our practice as a loss of over £3 million of the Zoo's funding, just weeks before the tender packages were due to be issued to the main contractors, led to a major rethink by the Zoo. Lloyd Cullen were approached to join the project team which re-established the clients objectives and then redesigned the structure.
Lloyd Cullen's pragmatic approach yielded a more cost effective structural solution which still achieved a Bream Excellent rating, maintained the Wader Bird and Snow Leopard Exhibits without compromising on scale and grandeur together with complying with the original Architectural intent. The project was still completed within the original time frame stipulated by the client.
Himalaya has since gone on to win the Best Commercial project in the East Midlands LABC Awards and was also commended in the category for Best Sustainable projects.
